Economy showed better performance in four months: Hafeez Shaikh

ISLAMABAD, Nov 19 (APP/PFP): Economy of the country has shown better performance during the first four months of the current fiscal year and the trend is expected to continue during the rest of the year, Federal Minister for Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said on Saturday. The Minister expressed these views while inaugurating a seminar on “Revival of Economic Growth in Pakistan,” organized by the Ministry of Finance. The objective of the conference was to find out ways for removing constraints to growth and look for the means to raise savings and investments while ensuring inclusive growth. It was also aimed at finding ways for broadening and deepening the financial sector besides addressing the fiscal problems faced by the country.
Dr. Hafeez Shaikh said that the government was committed to economic reforms agenda to ensure that economic stability remains intact.
He said that the focus of the current conference was to identify and find out solutions to the key constraints, being faced by the economy.
“The purpose of the conference is to look where does things stand now at the economic front,” the Minister said adding that this was the good time to take stock of the current situation.
He said that Pakistan was having good relations with International Monetary Fund (IMF) and that the recent talks with the bank were held in a cordial atmosphere.
Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Director IMF, Adnan Mazarei said that the bank had good and discussion with Pakistan in a candid atmosphere.
He said that Pakistan was facing some short term issues, and stressed the need for addressing issues on long-term basis.
He said that there was a need to focus on fiscal growth, banking sector and energy sector on long term basis.
